Background
The Memory Assessment Centre was opened in Bradford in 1989 as one of the first specialist clinics in The UK. The clinic offered diagnostic and assessment Services in response to the growing demand for a specialist memory clinic. Over the last 15 years the clinic has assessed over 3000 patients with memory disorders. Geographically, patients are referred from Lancashire and West Yorkshire, with specialist assessment facilities based in both Blackpool and Bradford.
The Memory Assessment Centres are staffed by
Consultants, Neuropsychologists, RGN/RMNs, Occupational Therapists, Psychology Assistants and administrative staff. The clinic also supports PhD studentships.
All staff have a background in the assessment and management of Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders, and a multi-disciplinary assessment model is employed.
The clinic actively promotes Research into Alzheimer's Disease and other cognitive disorders.
Memory Clinic
The Memory Clinic offers free memory assessment services to patients over the age of 60. Various memory tests, including computerised assessment batteries that help to distinguish between several types of memory impairment, are employed to assist in the diagnosis of memory impairment.
Depending on the assessment, we will contact the referring GP to advise on a course of action, which may include further tests, or a suggestion regarding management options.
In some cases, the patient may be offered the opportunity to take part in a clinical trial for a new treatment.
Research Clinic
The research clinic runs parallel to the memory assessment centre, and is a specialist centre for research into memory disorders. We believe that, by helping in the development of new treatments, we can contribute to the future well being of our patients. The ultimate goal is to find a cure for diseases such as Alzheimer's. The centre has been involved in pivotal research for all current licensed therapies for Alzheimer's disease.

The clinic also has a large database of elderly volunteers who have assisted in clinical studies over the years.
